This is my first blog post and it has been quite a learning curve. I chose Weebly as my web page and blog platform because I was impressed by their video tutorials.
It was relatively easy to get started and the themes are excellent. I also found it was easy to lay out pages and add the things I needed to create my website.
When setting up the website I had to think carefully about how to price my services. This is a really tricky one for most Virtual Assistants, as by their very nature they multi-task and have multi-skills to offer. It’s only when a client actually sits down with you and outlines their requirements, or when you offer to do tasks that they are currently doing themselves that you can price your value.
My speciality is transcription. Although the industry standard time to complete a 1 hour recording is about 4 typing hours, this does vary widely.
Imagine an interview – one person asks the questions, the other answers – with the usual “uhm...,” “aah…,” “what I mean is,” “well actually..” So we transcriptionists use our brains and take out the uhms and aahs and even the odd colloquialism, just leaving in the essential important information.
If my clients use references to titles of books, webpages, authors or even scientific terms, it is part of my service to look up anything unusual on the Internet and make sure it is correct. I find this the best part of the job, as I learn so much more about many things.
